About:

Amanda G. WhitacreDr. Whitacre blends a traditional approach (of closeness and connection) with a decade of psychological expertise and cutting-edge research. With a bachelor’s degree from Johns Hopkins University, a master’s degree from Columbia University, and a Ph.D. in Clinical Psychology from Long Island University—Brooklyn, she aims to bring back what treatment once was: comprehensive, caring, informed, and individualized.

Dr. Whitacre’s treatment approach is rooted in psychodynamic psychotherapy (insight-oriented talk therapy) and Dialectical Behavior Therapy. Her experience includes private practices, school-based therapy, child development centers, college counseling centers, psychiatric emergency rooms, and inpatient/outpatient hospital work at Columbia Medical Center, Mount Sinai, and New York—Presbyterian.

Now in private practice with adults, children, families, and couples, Dr. Whitacre engages in a joint effort toward symptom relief and self-actualization. Her clients have expressed that she is “deeply genuine,” “empathic,” and “passionate” about their work together.

Dr. Whitacre places a strong emphasis on the therapeutic relationship, and she works to help you outgrow your past and thrive in your present. Together, you will identify your personal goals and engage in supportive and dynamic therapy—in order to unleash an enhanced, enlivened version of yourself.
