About:

Blake KirschnerIn my years of being a therapist I have been amazed and humbled by people's ability to learn and grow, even in some of the most difficult circumstances. Working towards change can be very difficult, and I view my role as being a strong support for anyone taking on the challenge of improving themselves or their family. Effective therapy involves learning more adaptive and effective ways of dealing with stressors, while also building on existing strengths, to create positive change. Judgment and labels are less than helpful, while compassion and understanding allow hope and healing to take hold.
I earned my Doctor of Psychology (Psy.D.) degree from Pacific University’s School of Professional Psychology as a member of the child and adolescent track, which involved training in a variety of settings including school, community mental health, and outpatient clinics. I also completed an APA-accredited internship at St. Luke’s-Roosevelt Hospital in New York City, where I received additional training in neuropsychological assessment, group and family therapy, and the treatment of substance use disorders in adolescents. Through my doctoral education I have trained in evidence-based treatments such as Cognitive-Behavioral Therapy (CBT), Dialectical-Behavioral Therapy (DBT), Collaborative Problem-Solving, and Motivational Interviewing. I also utilize family systems and psychodynamic principles in my integrative care of clients.

My clinical interests include helping children and their families find ways to address issues arising from anxiety, depression, ADHD, Autism Spectrum Disorders, trauma, and substance-use. Outside of the therapy room I am an avid sports and music fan, gardening enthusiast, and (very) amateur cook who won’t allow frequent culinary disasters stop me from trying!
