Carlos Perez BenitezDr. Carlos I. Pérez Benitez is the Director of the Miami Center for Cognitive Therapy and Adjunct Professor in the Department of Psychiatry and Behavioral Sciences at Miller School of Medicine. Dr. Perez Benitez was an Assistant Research Professor in the Departments of Educational and Psychological Studies, Psychiatry and Behavioral Sciences, and Family Medicine and Community Health at the University of Miami, from 2009 to 2014.
He obtained his Ph.D. in clinical psychology from Bowling Green State University, in 2004. He completed his clinical internship in the Department of Psychiatry and Behavioral Sciences at Weill Cornell Medical College/New York-Presbyterian Hospital in New York City, NY, and a post-doctoral clinical research fellowship in the Department of Psychiatry and Human Behavior at the Alpert School of Medicine of Brown University, Providence, RI, where he became an Assistant Professor (Research) in Psychiatry.
Dr. Pérez Benítez is a licensed clinical psychologist in the state of Florida and is a diplomate of the Academy of Cognitive Therapy.
Dr. Perez Benitez has been conducting psychological evaluations and interventions for 30 years with children, adults, and the elderly population. Areas of clinical experience include: trauma, depression, anxiety, developmental disorders, psychosis, neurological conditions (e.g. stroke), chronic medical conditions. The doctor offers individual, family, couple therapies. Other services include, evaluations for gifted programs, psychoeducational evaluations, evaluations for immigration services, evaluations for surgical procedures.
He has several years of experience in the studying the development, diagnosis, course, and treatment of anxiety disorders. Dr. Perez Benitez is currently developing behavioral intervention programs for children neurodevelopmental disorders such as including autism spectrum disorders and ADHD in children
