About:

Diana GordickPeople who seek me out are often facing unexpected life transitions, relationship conflicts or parenting concerns. When these stressful situations occur sometimes it can be difficult to move forward. Although I work with individuals, couples and groups, a large part of my practice is parents concerned about their teen/young adult. Their child may be struggling with anxiety, depression, school refusal, eating disorders, substance abuse, or other changes that affect the parent-child relationship. Or, I work with teens and young adults navigating these transitions. I also work individually with individuals coping with chronic fatigue, fibromyalgia, irritable bowel disease and the complications related to Lyme’s disease.

Over 20 years of experience with a wide variety of people has developed my ability to align with you to create a process addressing your unique situation. You may be looking for help feeling depressed, anxious or overwhelmed but I can help you through this. I take both a short term and long term perspective approaching issues. What this looks like is addressing what brings you in, but also talking openly about what we are doing and why. This allows you to see the strategies, be part of the process, and incorporate what works for you. When we are done working together, you will be able to use what you have learned in other situations.

Often when I meet people for the first time they are experiencing their most challenging times. Making the first call can feel vulnerable and sometimes people wonder what I think of them because they are struggling and lost. I see starting this process as strong and wise. People would easily describe me as open, respectful and non-judgmental, but what doesn't show immediately is that I view this work as a hero’s journey. It takes courage to look at yourself and acknowledge what isn’t working. It takes openness and persistence to develop the skills that carry you through these challenges.
