Kathryn Jens
I have practiced psychology for forty years and in a variety of settings including community mental health centers, public schools, university teaching, program development and research, and independent practice. I am a good listener and enjoy being present with clients as they sort out their feelings and next steps on their life's journey. I am active in sharing ideas and resources that may be helpful. My theoretical orientation combines psychodynamic concepts with community systems theory. This translates to seeing human beings as a product of both childhood development in a family, and current social roles and supports. My intentions are to provide a safe, accepting relationship for each client to explore their deep, honest feelings.
I consider myself a Renaissance person that is willing to work with almost any problem that comes my way. My areas of particular expertise include trauma, adolescence, families with adopted children, bullying, and women's issues. I am trained in and use EMDR (eye movement desensitization and reprocessing).
I retired from the Cherry Creek Schools in 2014. In addition to my part-time practice, I am exploring fiction writing and oil painting in retirement.
If it seems like I might be a good match for the kind of therapist you are seeking or if you have any questions, please give me a call. I'll look forward to talking to you.
