About:

Dr. Krista K. Fritson earned her doctoral degree at Forest Institute of Professional Psychology in Springfield, MO in 1997. In route to her Psy.D., Dr. Fritson earned her M.S. in Clinical Psychology from Fort Hays State University and her B.S. in General Psychology from the University of Nebraska at Kearney (UNK). While acquiring her formal education, Dr. Fritson worked in various roles in the mental health field and in a variety of settings since 1986. She has experience working with a variety of ages and mental/behavioral health diagnoses in many settings, including inpatient hospitals, Treatment Group Homes, Residential Treatment, Day Treatment, and Outpatient services.
Dr. Fritson joined UNK as an Assistant Professor after serving as a part-time lecturer for two years. Currently, as a tenured, Full Professor, she teaches the clinical track courses, including Psychopathology, Intro to Clinical Psychology, Abnormal Psychology, and General Psychology while conducting research and engaging in service activities at UNK and the Kearney community. Her scholarly activity includes: a chapter on Autism, projects regarding self-efficacy and journaling, student engagement, and positive psychology programs’ effectiveness for promoting wellness in communities and geriatric assisted living facilities. Her current program of research promotes improving wellness for individuals in high stress, high burnout jobs using efficient, inexpensive, and convenient technology interventions, as well as, exploring the use of pre/post course exams as a means of assessing student learning outcomes.
Dr. Fritson continues to work as a Licensed Clinical Psychologist. She serves as the Clinical Director for the Central Nebraska LOSS Team, completes Veteran evaluations, Supervises psychotherapists in the community, provides consultation to mental health organizations, consults with high school and university sports teams, and maintains a small private practice.
