Leland van den Daele
I am a clinical developmental psychologist and psychoanalyst with practice experience in the Midwest, East and West coasts. I was awarded my master’s degree and doctorate from Purdue University with specialties in clinical psychology and human development. Following an additional six years of training, I was certified to practice psychoanalysis by the American Institute for Psychoanalysis of the Karen Horney Institute and Clinic in New York City. I was a Senior National Institute of Mental Health Fellow, and participated in advanced studies with Erik Erikson, Lawrence Kohlberg, and Herman Witkin. I have certifications in Stress Management, Time-Limited Psychotherapy, and post-doctoral training in neuropsychological assessment.
Traveling between Manhattan and Princeton, I maintained a full-time practice, was co-founder of the Princeton Society for Psychoanalysis, served as a faculty member at the American Institute of Psychoanalysis, Chair of the Short-Term Psychoanalytic Study Group, Training Analyst in psychoanalytic psychotherapy, and Councilor to the Association for Advancement of Psychoanalysis. Currently, I serve on the North American Editorial Board for the American Journal of Psychoanalysis, and practice in California where I supervise professionals and see clients.
I am a Fellow of the American Academy of Clinical Psychology, professional psychology’s highest level of recognition for expertise. To my knowledge, I am the only Karen Horney trained psychoanalyst on the West Coast to bring her unique perspective.
