Marcia Eckerd
I have been in practice as a licensed psychologist since 1985. My specialties are working with people of all ages with autism spectrum disorders, spectrum traits and NLD, anxiety/stress and social challenges. I use CBT, meditation, and coaching to help my clients maximize their potential and self-respect. I am now using teletherapy as well as office visits.
I trained extensively in psychotherapy, cognitive-behavioral therapy (CBT), mind-body medicine, neuropsychological testing and EMDR both for children and adults.I am a frequent writer and lecturer on subjects including social skill development, executive functions, NLD and Asperger's syndrome, dealing with inflexible children, resiliency and stress reduction. My blog Divergent Thinkers: Aspergers and NLD is on PsychCentral.com. I’m on the professional advisory board of Smart Kids with LD and frequently write and lecture for SmartKids.
I am proud to have been appointed to serve on the CT Autism Spectrum Disorder Advisory Council, and I also serve on the Clinical Advisory Committee of the Aspergers and Autism Association of New England. At Norwalk Hospital I helped establish the Pediatric Development and Therapy Center and I'm on the associate faculty in Psychiatry.
I graduated from Yale University Magna cum laude and with honors, received my Ph.D. in clinical psychology from the City University of NY in 1982 and completed my internship and fellowship at NY Hospital-Cornell Medical Center (now NY Presbyterian Hospital).
