Maria Sobol
I have a Ph.D. in Clinical Psychology from the University of Massachusetts, Boston. I have worked in a variety of settings, including private practice, a non-profit family support agency, school settings, psychiatric emergency and inpatient settings. My clients have come from a wide range of backgrounds and have struggled to navigate challenges and emotions related to managing life transitions, relationship difficulties, work-related problems, and family/parenting issues.
In addition to direct services, I have also taught, trained and supervised clinical interns and other unlicensed clinicians and non-clinical staff. I have provided parenting education and am certified and trained in the Positive Parenting Program (Triple P).
I tailor my approach to fit each individual client’s needs and draw from a variety of techniques and interventions (i.e., mindfulness, somatic experiencing/sensorimotor, EMDR, Emotional Freedom Technique (EFT), Narrative Therapy, Attachment Focused Therapy, S), depending on what is most useful for my clients.
I believe that change is possible and most likely to occur when people feel comfortable and safe in relationship, both with themselves and with another. My approach is relational, warm, collaborative, and accepting. My strengths-based perspective fosters collaboration with each person in order to promote progress and success in therapy.
