Dr. Melissa Lavin, is a clinical psychologist. She is trained as a general practitioner for children, adolescents, & adults. Dr. Lavin graduated from The School of Professional Psychology at Forest Institute in 2012. She was awarded Top Mental Health Professional in New Haven, CT, by the International Association of Health Care Professionals in 2014. Currently, she is dually licensed in NH & FL. Prior to starting her own business Dr. Lavin joined Capitol Psychological Services in 2015. She worked in a diverse range of mental health settings throughout her schooling and professional years. Dr. Lavin has worked with a variety of client populations & has interest in working with LBGTQIA, adults, adolescents, & children experiencing anxiety, depression, grief/loss, chronic stress, divorce, attachment, self-esteem, body image, identity, life transitions, & relationship problems. Dr. Lavin’s areas of specialization include trauma, after-effects of family dysfunction, & abuse.
Dr. Lavin works alongside her clients in developing their therapeutic treatment goals. She is eager to apply her experience & compassion with clients as they begin to address issues that will help them to improve their quality of life & attain a sense of fulfillment. Her approach combines support, empathy, empowerment, problem solving skills, & development of insight into current personal challenges. She utilizes cognitive behavioral therapy (CBT), trauma-focused therapy (TF-CBT), interpersonal therapies (IPT), & strength based approaches.

The journey of one's life can be thrown off course by unexpected changes, trauma, grief, transitions, & emotional struggles. I am dedicated in creating a safe place for individuals & families to understand themselves better & explore these life challenges. Everyone needs to feel understood & accepted at some point in their lives. My goal is to recognize each person's needs & help create a path to a more fulfilling life.
