Phyllis Walters
Choosing a psychologist involves making important, thoughtful decisions – whether for counseling, assessment, intervention or consultation.
I am a licensed, nationally certified psychologist who provides counseling and consultation as well as assessment services for couples, individuals, families, adolescents and children. My mission is to help you build a healthful way of living through enhancing your wisdom, optimism and resilience. I provide counseling, psychological, and neuropsycholigical assessment.
I earned my Doctor of Philosophy Degree (Ph.D.) in Psychology from the University of Northern Colorado and my Master of Science degree in School Psychology from the University of Alabama. During my graduate education at the University of Northern Colorado, I completed a variety of training experiences including working in the University Mental Health Clinic where I provided counseling services to families, couples, individuals and children.
My training has a basis in humanistic psychology and incorporates specialties in school psychology, neuropsychology, cognitive behavior therapy, hypnosis, family therapy and play therapy. While a student, I completed practicum experiences at the JFK Center for Developmental Disabilities, Denver Children's Hospital and the University of Northern Colorado's Neuropsychology and Family Therapy Clinic. My dissertation was focused on traumatic brain injury and titled Traumatic Brain Injury Self Report: Identifying the Relationship between Personality Style and Risk-Taking Behavior.
During my career, I have worked in the Florida school system for more than 20 years, private practice, hospitals, community mental health centers and a University Mental Health Clinic.
I provide counseling services to couples, individuals, families and children. I am trained in the most up-to-date learning and behavioral assessments, cognitive-behavioral therapy, parent-child interaction therapy, family therapy and play therapy.
