Virginia Lindahl
In my testing practice, I help clients solve the puzzle of why they don’t always live up to their full potential at school or work or why they are bothered by emotional or behavioral symptoms. Presenting clients with strategies and tools that can help them maximize their strengths and address challenges is a focal point of my practice.
I use a holistic approach to help clients increase happiness and life satisfaction, improve self-esteem, and enhance relationships. When working with adults, I use a wellness model to help clients strengthen coping skills and deepen self-awareness. With children and teens, she addresses emotional and behavioral problems and school-related issues. I also treat depression, anxiety. I have a specialty treating OCD using Exposure and Response Prevention (ERP).
I graduated summa cum laude from The George Washington University, with a B.A. in psychology. I earned my Ph.D. in clinical psychology from The Catholic University of America in 2004. I opened my private practice in 2004.
Service
I serve as president of the board of directors for the American Foundation for Suicide Prevention’s National Capital Area Chapter. I also volunteer with the American Red Cross Disaster Mental Health team, offering psychological assistance to victims and first responders. I have deployed to help victims of the Navy Yard shooting in Washington, DC and of Hurricane Irma in Florida, among other disasters. I provide pro bono mental health services to survivors of gun violence and their families through Give An Hour, and has volunteered abroad, sharing knowledge of child development with preschool teachers in Tanzania. I also mentor recent college graduates who hope to become mental health professionals, through the D.C. Area Phi Beta Kappa Association.
